The following gives guidance to using Triorities and attempts to answer any questions you may have. If you need additional support, hit the contact form at the bottom of the page.
The idea
Triorities is built around a single rule: each day, pick three things — the three that, if you do them, will make today a good day. Skip the rest. The point is focus, not a long list.
Three is the limit, not a target. Two is fine. One is fine. The app’s job is to keep the day honest, not to fill it.
Picking your three
Open Triorities and you’ll see today’s three slots, numbered 1, 2, 3.
- Tap an empty slot to name a Triority right there.
- Tap “Plan today” to walk through all three at once in a short ceremony — Triority by Triority, with a final confirmation step.
- Drag a row to reorder. Drop one filled row onto another to swap their slots.
- Tap the ring at the left of a row to mark it done. Tap again to undo.
When all three are done, the footer reads Three for today. in italics. That’s the whole reward — the day is what it was.
Life Priorities
A Triority is what you’re doing today. A Life Priority is the longer theme underneath it — Health, Family, the book you’re writing, the project you keep meaning to start.
- Open the Life Priorities tab to add, rename, or delete one. Each gets a small color dot.
- When you create or edit a Triority, link it to a Life Priority from the chip row.
- Triorities suggests a soft cap of seven Life Priorities. You can have more — the app just nudges you, because too many themes start to feel like a long list again.
- A Life Priority’s detail page shows a stat line (“X Triorities linked over Y days”) and a month-by-month history of every Triority you’ve linked to it.
Linking is optional. A Triority without a Life Priority is fine.
Plans (Reminders and Calendar events)
A Triority is the headline. Its Plan is how it gets done.
Open any Triority and tap Add to plan to attach:
- A new Reminder (creates one in your Reminders app).
- A new Calendar event (creates one in your Calendar app).
- An existing Reminder you already have.
- An existing Calendar event you already have.
Triorities never copies your Reminders or events into its own database. It links to them by Apple’s identifier and reads the live version on render, so anything you change in Reminders or Calendar shows up in Triorities, and vice versa.
A Reminder attached to a Triority can be marked done from inside Triorities — the change syncs back to Apple’s Reminders.
If you delete a linked Reminder or event in Apple’s apps, Triorities shows a gentle “this item was removed” row on the Triority. Detach it with the row’s menu when you’re ready.
Reflections
When you mark a Triority done, a small Reflect affordance fades in next to its Life Priority tag. Tap it to jot down a sentence or two about how it went.
- Auto-saves as you type. There’s no save button.
- Once written, the affordance label switches to the first 40 characters of your reflection.
- Reflecting is optional. You can skip it forever, write a sentence three months later, or change your mind and clear it (an empty reflection deletes itself).
- Reflections are kept on completed Triorities, including past days.
Daily audio journal
End the day with a short audio note.
- Open the Today view and tap the journal control to record up to two minutes of audio.
- After you stop, Triorities transcribes the recording on your device using Apple’s speech recognizer and saves both the audio and the transcript to that day’s journal entry.
- You can re-record, re-transcribe, or delete the entry at any time.
- Audio and transcripts are private to you. They live in your device and (if iCloud is enabled) in your private iCloud database. They are never sent to Triorities.
The first time you record, the app asks for Microphone and Speech Recognition permission. You can revoke either later in Settings; without microphone access, the journal control is hidden, and without speech access, your audio is saved but not transcribed.
History
Past days are permanent.
- Open the History tab to scroll back through every day you’ve planned.
- Past days lock their titles and Life Priority links — that’s intentional, the record is supposed to be honest.
- You can still toggle done/undone on any past Triority and edit its reflection. Sometimes “done” only becomes obvious in retrospect.
The day boundary
By default, “today” rolls over at midnight. If your day actually ends at 2am or 4am, change the day boundary in Settings.
- Triorities recomputes the boundary whenever the app becomes active and at the boundary itself, so a day rollover at 4am cross-fades from yesterday’s three to a fresh empty prompt without you doing anything.
- The boundary respects your local time zone and DST changes.
- Past Triorities are not re-shuffled when you move the boundary; it only affects how today is interpreted from now on.
Sync
Triorities uses Apple’s CloudKit to sync between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac through your private iCloud database. There is no Triorities account and no Triorities server.
To sync between devices:
- Sign in to the same iCloud account on each device.
- Make sure iCloud Drive is on, and Triorities is enabled in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive → Apps using iCloud.
- Open Triorities on each device and give it a moment to settle.
If you don’t want to sync, leave iCloud off — Triorities will keep your data on the local device only.
If sync looks stuck, force-quit and reopen Triorities, or briefly toggle iCloud Drive off and back on. CloudKit can take a minute to catch up after long offline periods.
On the Mac
Triorities is a real Mac app, not a stretched iPhone view.
- A menu bar icon (three dots) shows today’s three. Click to peek; click a Triority to mark it done.
- The main window opens at 520×720. Triorities uses a sidebar with Today, Life Priorities, and History.
- Cmd+, opens Preferences, which uses the standard macOS preferences-window look.
- Permissions live in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Pricing
Triorities is free to try for 14 distinct days of planning. After that, a one-time purchase of $2.99 (Triorities Unlock) keeps the app yours forever — no subscription, no ads.
- The 14-day count is over distinct planning days, not consecutive ones. Plan today, skip three weeks, plan again — the second day is day 2, not day 22.
- Past days remain editable and reflectable forever, free or paid.
- The unlock is family-shareable. If your family is set up for App Store family sharing, one purchase covers everyone.
- Already paid on another device? Tap Restore Purchases on the paywall.
The app warns gently at 7 days remaining and again at 11; it never blocks an in-progress day.
Permissions, in plain English
Triorities asks for permissions only when you start a feature that needs them, never at launch.
| Permission | Asked when | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Reminders | Adding or picking a Reminder | Creating, reading, and marking done the Reminders you attach |
| Calendar | Adding or picking an event | Creating and reading the events you attach |
| Microphone | First time you record an audio journal | Capturing the audio |
| Speech Recognition | First time you record | Transcribing the audio (mostly on-device) |
To revoke a permission, open Settings → Privacy & Security on iOS or System Settings → Privacy & Security on macOS, find the relevant category, and toggle Triorities off.
Common questions
Can I have more than three Triorities a day? No. That’s the whole app.
Can I plan tomorrow tonight? Not in 1.0. Plan when the day begins. We may revisit this.
Can I share a Triority list with someone else? No. Triorities is single-user. Family sharing applies to the unlock purchase only, not to your data.
Is there a widget? Not in 1.0.
Is there an Apple Watch app? Not in 1.0.
I deleted a Reminder in the Reminders app — why is the row still in Triorities? Triorities deliberately doesn’t auto-clean. The row will say “this item was removed.” Open its menu to detach.
My audio journal isn’t transcribing. Check that Speech Recognition is granted (Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition → Triorities). If it’s on, the recognizer may be unavailable for your locale or temporarily offline; tap Re-transcribe later.
I switched devices and my history is empty. Make sure both devices are signed in to the same iCloud account and that Triorities is enabled in iCloud Drive. Sync can take a minute the first time.
Where’s my data physically stored? Locally, in the app’s SwiftData store. If iCloud is on, it’s mirrored to your private iCloud database — visible to you, not to us. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
How do I delete everything? Delete the app to wipe the device copy. Remove the iCloud copy from Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Triorities → Delete Data.
