Welcome to Sermon Design 3. This short guide highlights the core workflows so you can prepare, refine, and deliver sermons efficiently.
Getting started
- Create or open a document: Each Sermon Design 3 document stores your sermon content, movements, and notes.
- Navigate phases: Use the sidebar (macOS) or the bottom tabs (iOS) to switch between Plan, Focus, Listen, Structure, and Write.
- Save frequently: Changes are saved automatically with the document, but you can also use standard macOS document commands to duplicate or revert.
Plan
- Outline movements: Add, name, and reorder sermon movements.
- Prompts and notes: Capture brainstorming ideas, scriptures, illustrations, and desired outcomes.
- Export and print: Export or print your current plan from the macOS File menu.
Focus
- Craft the big idea: Refine the core message and audience takeaway.
- Set the target: Clarify who you are speaking to and what action you want them to take.
Listen
- Surface themes: Capture observations, questions, and insights while studying the text.
- Track sources: Note references and supporting materials.
Structure
- Design the flow: Arrange movements into an intentional sequence.
- Canvas tools: Use the flow and canvas views to visualize transitions and timing.
Write
- Draft your manuscript: Compose and edit the sermon text.
- Session timer: Toggle the timer to rehearse and check pacing.
- Print manuscript: Print from the macOS File menu when you are ready to share or preach.
Tips
- Keyboard shortcuts (macOS): Use Command + 1–5 to jump between phases. Export (Shift + Command + E), print plan (Shift + Command + P), and print manuscript (Option + Command + P) are available in the File menu when relevant.
- Inspector panels: Open inspector views to adjust movement details and metadata without leaving your current phase.
- Autosave: The app autosaves, but consider duplicating documents before major revisions.
